Description:
This repository contains the complete supplementary dataset accompanying the Master Thesis Petrological and Geochemical Characteristics of Selected Epidote Group Minerals.
The dataset includes all EPMA mineral chemical analyses of epidote, clinozoisite and zoisite, which are provided in Table
A1_Appendix EPMA Data Epidote-Clinozoisite-Zoisite.xlsx. Trace-element concentrations of epidote, clinozoisite and zoisite
were determined by LA-ICP-MS. The complete trace element dataset is available in Table A2_Appendix LA-ICP-MS Data.xlsx.
Where additional minerals occurred, EPMA analyses were performed on calcite, feldspar, pyroxene, amphibole and garnet. The corresponding raw analytical data are included in the supplementary dataset and are provided in Table A3_Appendix EPMA Data Feldspar-Amphibole-Pyroxene-Garnet.xlsx. These datasets comprise the complete analytical results used for the mineral classification, structural formula calculations and geochemical interpretation presented in this thesis.
Epidote group minerals are common sorosilicates occurring in a wide range of metamorphic, hydrothermal and magmatic environments. Due to their chemical variability and trace element incorporation, they represent valuable indicators of metamorphic evolution, fluid interaction and element mobility. Mineral classification was performed following the nomenclature of Armbruster et al. (2006). Recalculated cation occupancies at the A1 and M3 structural sites were used for that matter. The investigated samples comprise compositions ranging from zoisite to clinozoisite and epidote. To evaluate gemmological properties and trace element characteristics, gem quality zoisite samples were studied additionally. The investigated mineral assemblages and geochemical characteristics reflect formation under metamorphic conditions ranging from greenschist- to eclogite-facies, as well as hydrothermal environments characterized by both reducing and oxidizing conditions. The results demonstrate considerable variability in mineral chemistry and trace element signatures, reflecting the combined influence of protolith composition, metamorphic evolution and fluid-rock interaction.
